Director Peter Head has revealed talks over the race only began in December

Guernsey's first full marathon for 17 years will be held this summer on Sunday, 30 August 2009.

The Guernsey Marathon will start and finish at Footes Lane and runners will head south to Torteval before following the west coast back.

Race director Peter Head told BBC Guernsey that it happened very quickly.

He said: "The club formed in October. It wasn't until just before Christmas that we decided to hold it so to launch it this quickly is fantastic."

The event will raise money for three local charities - Headway, Hope For Guernsey and the Mines Awareness Trust.
