A marathon is being planned for August next year in Guernsey by the island's new Marathon Runners Club. It will be the first time since 1992 that a race over 26 miles and 385 yards has been run on the island. Organiser Peter Head came up with the idea of the race after going through some old running logs and seeing that he ran the last marathon in 1992. "Hopefully it will be at the end of August next year and we already have a major sponsor," he told BBC Guernsey. Jersey's marathon was re-started in 2006 and has proved very popular. It is set to be run for the third successive time this October and attracts runners from all around the world.
