Merrien won a team bronze medal at the European Championships

Guernsey runner Lee Merrien has had to pull out of this weekend's international cross-country race in Edinburgh due to illness.

The race, which is due to be televised, is set to feature several members of the Great Britain team, which would have included Merrien, who has the flu.

He told BBC Guernsey that he is "disappointed not to be running".

Merrien is hoping to represent England in Italy's Five Windmills race later in the year.
