Garland won gold with Great Britian at the European Indoor Championships |
Great Britain 400m hurdler Dale Garland is to be inducted into the Guernsey Sports Commission's Hall of Fame. The 28-year-old, who was reserve for the British 4x400m relay team at last year's Olympic Games, is the 15th islander to be given the honour. He competed in the 2007 World Athletics Championships and has represented Guernsey in the decathlon at the last two Commonwealth Games. Garland has won 18 medals at the Island Games including 12 gold medals. "Sadly he didn't run in Beijing, but to get an Olympic vest is the pinnacle of anybody's athletic career and he's won medals running for Great Britain," said the Guernsey Sports Commission's chairman Stuart Falla. "Seeing him perform on the TV as 'Dale Garland from Guernsey' is absolutely fantastic."
