It was the first time that Merrien had raced over 10 miles |
Guernsey runner Lee Merrien has said he was surprised to finish as the second fastest British runner at the Great South Run in Portsmouth. The Island Games gold medallist was 12th, finishing the 10-mile race in 48 minutes and 49 seconds. "It was my first race of the winter season having had a break from training in the past few weeks," Merrien told BBC Guernsey. "To run as quick as I did I was very happy indeed." He added: "I was a little bit surprised at some of the guys I beat, not just the Brits, but some of the foreign guys as well, having never run the distance before."
