Merrien seventh at British trials

Lee Merrien was nine and a half seconds back in the 5000m

Guernsey's Lee Merrien claimed seventh place in the 5000m at the British Olympic Trials in Birmingham.

His time (14mins 3.84secs) at the Alexander Stadium was nine and a half seconds slower than winner Andy Vernon.

Tom Druce just missed out on a place in the final of the 400m. He finished fifth in his semi final in a time of 47.69, one place off making the final.

He ran 47.96 in his heat to qualify for the semi-finals as the fastest third-place finisher.

In the 100m hurdles, Kylie Robilliard ran 14.56 to finish fifth in her heat, over a second behind the winner while, in the 800m, Helen Hadjam finished seventh in her heat in a time of 2 minutes 11.76 seconds.
