Knowles was up against the world junior champion from Kenya

Truro runner Katie Knowles finished seventh for England in the final of the 3,000m at the Commonwealth Youth Games in Pune, India last week.

The 18-year-old had to be treated for heat exhaustion after finishing in 9 minutes 48 seconds in 36-degree heat.

"I was not the only one to suffer this way. Five others apparently collapsed at the finish, along with one person during the race," she said.

World junior champion, Kenya's Mercy Cherono, won by almost 30 seconds.

"The conditions were extremely tough and overall I was pleased with my performance," Knowles added.

"I really enjoyed the experience of going to India and had a fantastic time on the trip. I have learnt a lot and so I will be better prepared for the future."
