Knowles is still hoping to go to the Commonwealth Youth Games |
Cornish runner Katie Knowles has missed the chance to run at next month's World Junior Championships after failing to get the qualifying time in the 3000m. She claimed a bronze at the Under-20 AAA National Championships last weekend in a time of 9 minutes 49.5 seconds, well outside the 9:20 standard. It was her last opportunity to make the mark for the World Championships. The 18-year-old is part of a select group of young British runners being mentored by Dame Kelly Holmes. Knowles said: "I was pleased with how I ran this race and it gives me confidence knowing that I can finish strong and close gaps on people. "I was also pleased to win a medal as that was my aim going into the event." She is still hoping to be selected for the Commonwealth Youth Games as her personal best of 9:30 run earlier this season is five seconds inside the required mark.
