Dobriskey battled through illness to claim victory on Saturday |
Britain's Lisa Dobriskey has called 2008 her best-ever season, despite missing out on an Olympic medal. The Kent runner, 25, bounced back from her disappointment in Beijing by winning the Fifth Avenue Mile in New York and the Great North Mile. She told BBC Radio Kent: "It's been a real breakthrough season for me. "To run four minutes and establish myself as a world-class athlete is something I've always aspired to and I really feel I've done that this year." Dobriskey seemed to lose her way after winning the Commonwealth 1500m title in 2006 but she has since been tipped for success by some of the sport's greats - including double Olympic champion Dame Kelly Holmes. The Ashford athlete added: "To be disappointed to finish fourth in the Olympics can be a good thing because it's shown I've raised my standards and I've got different ambitions to what I had a few years ago. "I'd love to medal at a major international championships. "I'm looking forward to London 2012 because I think it's a really big opportunity there and I feel I can eventually fulfil my dreams one day in the sport which have basically all come about this year with being so close."
