Sean Hands won the Isle of Man End-to-End Walk on Sunday in a record time of six hours, 44 minutes, seven seconds.

After pulling out of the Parish Walk in June, Hands was delighted to cross the line first after 39.22 gruelling miles.

"I didn't expect to win today - I haven't done enough training," he said. "At least I finished one.

"I didn't finish the last two Parish Walks or last year's End-to-End, so it is great to finish one, and to win is even better."

Hands' time beat the previous record of Robbie Callister by more than 12 minutes.

Michael George came home second and reigning Parish Walk champion Jock Waddington was third, both men also beating the old record.

Sue Biggart set a new record en-route to victory in the women's race, with Lisa Motley second and double Parish Walk finisher Bethany Clague in third.

Adam Killip and Melissa Cubbon were the respective under-21 winners.

Maureen Cox of the End-to-End committee said: "It was a fantastic event in perfect conditions.

"Well done to everyone who completed the course and especially to all the record breakers."
