The 2008 Clerical Medical Parish Walk has received a record entry with 1,600 people applying to take part. The previous biggest number of participants was 1,582 in 2006. Murray Lambden, who runs the event's website, told BBC Isle of Man: "In 1990 the event had 180 entrants. It is amazing to see how it has grown." Defending champion Robbie Callister will go for a record-equalling sixth win but will face stiff competition from Sean Hands and Michael George. The 85-mile Parish Walk takes place on the weekend of 21-22 June.
