Guernsey's Dale Garland has not been named in the initial GB athletics squad for the Olympic Games in Beijing. The 27-year-old, who is the British number one at the 400m hurdles, missed last weekend's Olympic trials in Birmingham with a hamstring injury. But Garland could still make the final cut. He has until this Sunday (20 July) when the full squad is announced. He has pencilled in a meeting at Loughborough on Thursday to try and prove his fitness. Garland has still to make the 'A' standard for the games, but has recorded the 'B' standard. As no other British athlete has made the top grade so far, provided he is fit, he could still make the plane for China. Trafford's Richard Yates set a personal best on his way to a first British title in the 400m hurdles at the weekend in Garland's absence, winning in 49.50 secs. That time is over a second quicker than Garland's best this year of 50.54 sec.
