Macey earns place for Melbourne
Dean Macey
Macey's career has been blighted by injuries
Former world championship decathlon silver medallist Dean Macey will return to action for England at next year's Commonwealth Games in Melbourne.

Macey is one of 15 additions to the England squad announced by the Commonwealth Games Council for England.

Olympic heptathlon bronze medallist Kelly Sotherton - already selected for the long jump - has also been confirmed for her multi-event discipline.

Jo Fenn (800m) and sprinter Marlon Devonish (100m) have also been added.

Macey, who has struggled with injuries throughout his career, has not competed since he came fourth at the 2004 Athens Olympics.

But the 27-year-old insists he is in good shape and is confident he can claim gold if he stays injury-free.

"I'm in fantastic shape and awesome form. I'm doing times now that I haven't done for a couple of years," he said.

"If I stay injury free I feel confident I will bring home a gold. The plan is for me to go no more than 80% in training and to save that extra 20% for competition.

"It's quite difficult for me to hold myself back but I'm doing it."

Fenn reached the final of the 800m in Manchester while Devonish will double-up, having been earlier selected in the 200m.

Liz Yelling, fourth in the 10,000m in Manchester in 2002, is chosen for the marathon.

Ashia Hansen and Olympic 200m finalist Abi Oyepitan have both withdrawn because of injury while Craig Pickering had already pulled out to concentrate on his studies.
