| Tuesday, 26 November, 2002, 13:50 GMT Turnbull on Irish team ![]() Gareth Turnbull will compete in the Europeans Belfast middle distance athlete Gareth Turnbull will run for Ireland in the European cross country championships in Croatia. But there was disappointment for Dermot Donnelly who has been named as first reserve. Donnelly came fifth in the Irish trials staged in Cork recently. An Athletics Ireland spokesman said Turnbull had been given the nod because the championship course was suited to a track runner. South African Alistair Cragg, who has Irish parentage, has been included on the six-man team. Cragg, who recently declared for Ireland, finished second in Sunday's American national collegiate cross-country championships at Indiana State University. The 22-year-old has clocked 13 minutes 22 seconds for the 5,000 metres this year. Ireland team: Seamus Power, Fiachra Lombard, Cathal Lombard, Mark Kenneally, Alistair Cragg, Gareth Turnbull.
