The Welshman had to settle for third place in what will probably be his final outdoor athletics appearance in Britain. The 35-year-old is sticking to his guns about retiring from the 110m hurdles after the World Indoor Championships in March 2003. American pair Allen Johnson (13.23secs) and Larry Wade (13.26secs) denied Jackson a fairytale finale. Johnson still insists he can smash Jackson's nine-year-old world record of 12.91secs. Jackson, though, was given a huge ovation from the capacity 17,000 crowd as he savoured his last lap of honour after 18 years at the top of his sport. And he remained upbeat despite the result. "It's a wonderful feeling to end your career in front of a packed stadium," Jackson said. |
