Archer Larry Godfrey hails importance of Delhi games

Bristol archer Larry Godfrey believes next month's Commonwealth Games in Delhi will be even more important than the Olympics.

The England shooter is part of a team which has the chance to win a medal for the first time in 28 years since the event was last included in Australia.

"This is a massive deal - bigger than the Olympics," the 34-year-old told BBC Radio Bristol.

"This has been one of the things on my tick list to achieve in my career."

Godfrey continued: "I've been doing archery now for 25 years but up until now I've not had the opportunity as it's not been in the Commonwealth Games."

And Godfrey, who competes at county level for Gloucestershire, knows the Delhi games next month could be his only chance for Commonwealth success.

"In four year's time the rumour is that it's being taken back out," he continued.

The two-time Olympian will compete in the men's individual and team events in India, alongside Simon Terry and Alan Wills.

"This year's been about patience and improvement and everything seems to be going to plan," he said.

"I've had some good results and consistent results and I'm happy I've done everything I can to be fully prepared for Delhi."
