Liverpool Muslim Ladies 0-0 Nacro Ladies
Luke and James get ready for the game |
Even with Nacro's superb attack force, the Liverpool Muslim Ladies (LML) defence was just too strong.
LML started the game very well, having all the possession for the first two minutes, but the Nacro defence held firm.
Nacro soon managed to gain control of the ball. Their superb striker took the ball all the way down the field past the defenders, but the LML goalkeeper was just too good.
Unhappy that the first attempt was a failure the Nacro striker tried again in the fifth minute, shooting from the half way line, but the LML goalkeeper cleared the ball.
Tired of relying on the goalkeeper to save the game LML pushed forward, but any attempt was stopped by Nacro's brilliant goalkeeper.
With just seconds to go until the final whistle LML were determined to steal the game, but shot over the bar by just a few inches, leaving the game scoreless.
LML captain Ayan Elmi said: "We played excellently, we had a good defence and our goalkeeper was superb. It just wasn't our game."

Rice Lane 2-0 Portsmouth Foyer Extinguishers
Despite a relentless effort, PFE were defeated by Rice Lane after a gritty performance.
It was a great start for both teams, with all players displaying skilful and friendly football - they all looked on top form.
Another attack goes close for Rice Lane |
Rice Lane's Matty Evans played excellently with some top tackles and fine passing. The team communicated well and there was a real sense of team spirit.
PFE were keen to make a good impression in their opening match, with some great team work.
Wayne Childerley was brilliant in goal.
Playing on one quarter of St James' pitch, both teams found it difficult to keep the ball in play and as a result, there were several throw-ins.
At the end of the match Rice Lane managed to squeeze past the Extinguishers defence and slam in a couple of goals.
Rice Lane manager Danny Hopkins said: "We played very well against some good competition. I feel that it has been good for the team to play in Newcastle."
PFE boss Gary Buckley said: "They played well as a team and they also got a lot out of this tournament as individuals. I would like to say that I'm very proud of them making it to Newcastle."

PPG 2-0 Portsmouth Foyer Extinguishers
It was make or break for the Extinguishers in their final qualifying match, but they just couldn't make the grade.
The Birmingham team PPG got off to a brilliant start with two goal attempts within the first minute, but both were superbly stopped by the goalkeeper.
Not amused at their first two failures PPG tried a third time, but again their efforts were stumped by the efforts of the Extinguishers keeper.
PPG in fine spirits ahead of all the action |
Five minutes into the game and PPG took the ball all the way and scored a brilliant goal. PPG then had the motivation to press on and were able to get the ball past the goalkeeper yet again.
Knowing this was their last chance to make it to the final may have been in the Extinguishers' minds and it certainly seemed to affect their standard of play.
Extinguishers captain Wayne Childerley said: "We were pathetic, there was no team work at all. There were so many chances we could have taken, but we didn't."
