Ghana 0-0 Morocco Ivory Coast 1-1 Egypt There is stalemate at the Under-20 African Nations Cup. Egypt pulled off a sensational last gasp equalizer from the penalty spot to draw 1-1 with Ivory Coast while it ended blank between Ghana and Morocco. It follows two draws in the opening games in Group A. There were few high-points in the match between Ghana and Morocco, with long range shots and little in the way of well-worked moves.Ivory Coast looked set to collect the first three points of the competition, but that was denied by Egypt's Ahmed Fathi Ahmed from the penalty spot in the 94th minute. But the competition should begin to take shape with the second round of games.
The Amajita's have the tactics to win, but one big handicap is their size. Their coach Boebie Williams may make one change in his starting line up by bringing in Phumudzo Mananzhe, who arrived 24 hours before kick-off on Saturday. Williams could play Mananzhe with Rashied Thorne or Ashwell Memela, both of who started well against Burkina Faso. But Thorne and Memela are probably the smallest strikers in the tournament and standing up to the Malians will be a tough task. Mananzhe's height and stature would present more of a challenge. Assistant Amajita coach, Moq Moqsood said: "We know what to expect from the Malians. We have seen their shortcomings and balanced that with their strong points, but we are going with the notion that we need three points." Mali conceded the first goal of the competition through slack defending and similar mistakes against South Africa would cost them a place in the semi-finals. Hosts pressured Home fans will have to brave the cold Harmattan wind to support Burkina Faso who play Gabon. The Gabonese have already produced one player whose name is in the lips of everyone: Eric Mouloungui. The Strasbourg striker is a dribbling magician and slick passer. The Burkinabes are aware he is the man to stop, though the Gabon are playing well as a team too. Burkina Faso seem to have learnt more how to dribble than scoring goals - a problem their Dutch coach Mart Nooij will be preoccupied with. The hosts are under pressure and that could cause them problems in Tuesday's game. | Top Africa stories now: Links to more Africa stories are at the foot of the page. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
