A relieved Murray signs autographs (left) after struggling past Carlos Moya in Cincinnati, where he goes on to win the title (top right); Olympic disappointment follows (bottom right)

A relieved Murray signs autographs (left) after struggling past Carlos Moya in Cincinnati, and later says it was the turning point of his year.

He goes on to take the title (top right) with victory over Djokovic in the final, but Olympic disappointment follows (bottom right) when he crashes out to world number 77 Lu Yen-Hsun of Taiwan.

Murray in Cincinnati: "It's huge because to win these tournaments is tough nowadays. I've played five days in these conditions and had eight or nine matches in the last couple of weeks. But I've put in the physical work and it's paid off."

Murray in Beijing: I don't want to make excuses - Lu just played better than me. I had my chances and I didn't take them."

August 31st ranking - 6
