Malisse and Rochus had played in only one previous tournament together, but beat the second and third seeded pairings on their way to the final.

By contrast, sixth seeds Llodra and Santoro were playing their 31st event.

"We came up against a very good team, but the two weeks left us feeling a bit tired," Llodra said.

Llodra reached the fourth round of the singles in Paris, losing to Tim Henman in five sets, while Santoro won the longest singles match in Grand Slam history against Arnaud Clement in the first round.
