 Federer beat Roddick for the second time in a week |
Switzerland's Roger Federer cruised past world number one Andy Roddick in the last four of the Masters Cup to set up a final against Andre Agassi. Agassi, who beat Rainer Schuettler in the first semi-final, is bidding to win the tournament for a second time, 13 years after he first triumphed in the event.
In the second semi-final Wimbledon champion Federer needed just 62 minutes to secure a 7-6 (7/2), 6-2 win over Roddick, who was crowned world number one earlier in the week.
Federer has won all four of his matches at the tournament, including a round-robin victory over Agassi on Monday.
Agassi had to produce a brave comeback as he beat Schuettler 5-7 6-0 6-4.
Agassi, who had not played since losing to Juan Carlos Ferrero in the semi-finals of the US Open, arrived at the tournament with low expectations.
"I came in here with some questions. I felt good. Was I going to be ready?" he said.
"It has turned out to be a good decision (to rest), one I should have made a lot more often the past few years.
"There have been a lot of years I have come to this tournament far more spent than prepared."
Victory on Sunday would make Agassi the oldest winner at any year-end championship in ATP history.
"I have spent the better part of my career being older," he said.
"My age is irrelevant to me when I'm on the court."
