Burrell (l) and Nilsen came through Leeds' academy |
Phil Nilsen and Luther Burrell have both agreed new one-year contracts with Leeds Carnegie. Nilsen, 25, became Leeds' second choice hooker and made 15 appearances last season, while 22-year-old centre Burrell scored three tries in 18 games. Director of rugby Andy Key said: "Phil and Luther have contributed to the first team squad this season. "They also played key roles in helping the A team reach the semi finals of their league for the first time." The duo have joined Scott Mathie, Andy Titterrell, Hendre Fourie, Scott Barrow, Lee Blackett and Jon Pendlebury in agreeing new deals at Headingley. Key added: "We are very proud as a club of our record for producing quality players from our academy system. "That has been recognised not just here at Leeds Carnegie but at a host of other clubs in the Guinness Premiership who have sought to recruit young players who have been brought up at Leeds Carnegie in our academy. "Phil and Luther will be looking for a big pre-season and to press their claims for more chances next year and we are happy to reward that ambition and commitment with a new contract."
