Scott Mathie has revealed he turned down interest from other clubs to remain at Leeds Carnegie.
The 27-year-old has signed a new two-year deal at Headingley after becoming the club's first choice scrum-half in the second half of the season.
"Other clubs were sniffing about, but I only ever wanted to stay here," Mathie told BBC Radio Leeds.
"This is a fantastic place to play rugby and the way the club is moving forward is great."
The South-African started the season behind World Cup winner Andy Gomersall, but won the number nine shirt back in the latter stages of the campaign after Gomersall suffered an injury.
"I'm excited about the future of the club, it's great to be part of a club that is going forward like this. I'm very happy to be staying here, Yorkshire is a great place to live and it all added up to become a no brainer for me," explained Mathie.
"I have learnt a load from Andy Gomersall. I've learnt a lot from the way he communicates and leads the forwards. It's the small things that make the difference and I think I've picked up those small things from Andy.
"He is a great bloke and great to have around a club and I thank him for all his effort and input."
The former Natal Sharks player is qualified to play for England as his father was born in Newcastle and is keen to achieve that dream.
"It has always been an ambition of mine to play international rugby and test myself against the best. It would be an honour to be called up for England. That would be the greatest point of my career.
"But it's all about Leeds for me at the moment, I just want to help them move forward and help us to a top six finish next season.
"I just want to give my best for Leeds and take us upwards and whatever comes from that would be a bonus."
