As I write, there is a great deal of speculation surrounding Matt Williams' future as Scotland coach.
I have to say I've had a really good working relationship with Matt, but I'm fully aware that we haven't produced the necessary results over the past couple of years.
Having said that, it's the players who've been missing the tackles and we have to hold our hands up and admit that it's not good enough.
It's not a question of not being coached correctly - we've been missing basic one-on-one tackles.
From a personal point of view, as captain, it's been a very tough seven weeks.
We know these days that if results don't go well then fingers will be pointed by the media and ex-players.
A lot of the criticism has been deserved. The amount of tries we conceded to the three other home nations was unacceptable and the fans deserve better.
I know Matt said after the defeat by England that he felt we could win the Six Nations next year and I have to admit that would be highly unlikely.
However, if we can start to tidy up our defence we can hopefully put some more positive results together.
We seem to have turned the tide in terms of scoring tries at least. Our try count last year was hugely disappointing - I think we only got two in the entire championship.
Now at least we have something to build on. Try-scoring gives you confidence and there are not too many teams who go to Twickenham and get three tries.
But there's no point in doing that if you're going to concede seven, so we know we have a lot of work to do.
I feel I've worked well with Matt, I've enjoyed his coaching but, as I say, we haven't got the results and there's a lot of thinking to be done about the best way forward.
