The Leinster half-back has been a mainstay of the Pumas since making his debut in 1998.

He has formed a superb pairing with scrum-half Agustin Pichot, who last November described Contepomi as the best fly-half in the world, although he is used increasingly by Argentina at inside centre.

His attacking style has made him a favourite with the Leinster crowd and this summer he was awarded a degree from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland.
