1993: White trounced by Hendry
White felt Hendry's wrath
Stephen Hendry dropped only 25 frames, just two less than Steve Davis in 1989, to win his third world title.

Once again, it was Jimmy White who lost out in the final but this time he was never in contention as Hendry completed an 18-5 victory with a session to spare.

Hendry had barely been challenged all through the tournament.

From 4-4 with Alan McManus in the semi-finals, he pulled away to win 16-8, having drubbed Danny Fowler 10-1, Darren Morgan 13-4 and Nigel Bond 13-7.

White defeated Thailand's James Wattana 16-9 having trailed 5-0 and 6-2 in the other semi-final.

Doug Mountjoy beat Alain Robidoux 10-6 in the first round only weeks before an operation to remove his left lung after a tumour had been found.

Ronnie O'Sullivan, 18, made his first Crucible appearance but was beaten 10-7 by McManus in a first round in which few matches went the distance, partly because of the number of surprise qualifiers, an inevitable result of the WPBSA's decision to stage pre-qualifying way back in September 1992.
