McCoy spent nine years as stable jockey to Martin Pipe, winning the jockeys' title nine times before ending the partnership in 2004 to become stable jockey to Jonjo O'Neill and the retained rider of multi-millionaire owner JP McManus. When McCoy made the decision to leave the Pipe yard, there was speculation that it would signal the end of his jockeys' titles. But the winning rides continued apace for McCoy although he knows the importance of having a good team around him. "From day one I've been very lucky and my agent Dave Roberts has been fantastic," he said. "During my time with Martin Pipe I rode somewhere between 1100 and 1200 winners for him and without his support I wouldn't have achieved the number of winners I have had and I am also lucky with the job I have now with Jonjo O'Neill who is one of the sport's greats. "Riding for JP McManus is a great honour and I have never met anyone who supports National Hunt racing as much as he does, not just financially but in every way."
