2. The Whistling Teal (R Hughes) 11-2
3. Murghem (K Dalglish) 5-1

Kevin Darley made it two wins in a row after the favourite Darasim held on superbly for victory.

Mark Johnson's horse, which had finished second to Scott's View on Tuesday, made most of the running in the race which was reduced to five runners at the start when Maniatis was withdrawn.

Darasim set the pace and in the closing stages maintained the advantage ahead.

1520 - William Hill Mile 1m

1. Smirk (K Darley) 12-1
2. Atlantic Ace (F Norton) 33-1
3. Surprise Encounter (L Dettori) 14-1
4. Nashaab (S Drowne) 20-1
21 ran

Kevin Darley had an anxious wait before being confirmed as the winner of the William Hill Mile on Smirk.

A stewards inquiry involving the David Elsworth trained horse, third-placed Surprise Encounter and sixth-placed Omaha City gave some nail-biting moments for all concerned.

After Wannabe Around set a blistering pace from the start, the rest of the field hauled back the difference with around a furlong to go.

Bouncing Bowdler challenged but Smirk came through the middle to stake a claim.

In a tight finish, Smirk held on for victory just ahead of the fast-finishing Atlantic Ace for the horse's first success for a year.

1445 - Theo Fennell Lennox Stakes 7f

1. Nayyir (E Ahern) 9-2
2. Redback (R Hughes) 9-2
3. Priors Lodge (Pat Eddery) 6-1
9 ran

Nayyir gave Eddie Ahern his 44th win of the season after holding off the challenge of Redback and Richard Hughes.

The pair fought out the finish competitively after taking up the running with around a furlong and a half to go and Nayyir triumphed by half a length in a quick race.

1415 - Seabeach Handicap 1m 2f

1. Macaw (JF Egan) 7-1
2. Tertullian (F Norton) 20-1
3. Imbibing (M Hills) 20-1
12 ran

John Egan got off to a good start riding the 7-1 shot Macaw to victory but the race was overshadowed by an incident involving the favourite Chorist.

The Kieren Fallon-ridden horse tried to make its way through on the inside of Passing Glance and Martin Dwyer but the way was blocked.

It knocked Chorist off its stride and she never recovered, eventually finishing well out of the places.

A stewards inquiry was called with Kieren Fallon picking up a three-day suspension.
