Sam Weale is confident of winning an Olympic modern pentathlon medal after being named in the British team for Beijing alongside Nick Woodbridge.

The duo qualified through their positions on the Olympic ranking list and join female pentathletes Katy Livingston and Heather Fell in Team GB.

It means Britain will have the maximum number of four athletes at the Games.

Weale, 26, said: "Any one of the 30 athletes could win a medal. I consider myself as one of those athletes."

Telford-based Woodbridge, 22, added: "I saw Beijing as an experience for London 2012, but now I have my eyes on a podium finish.

"I'm set for two months of the hardest training of my career and who knows what can happen under the Olympic pressure."

Team manager Dominic Mahony praised all four of Britain's pentathletes for reaching the Olympic standard.

He said: "It is an outstanding achievement to have the full complement of athletes competing in Beijing and we go there with the intention of seriously challenging for medals."
