Davies signs for Aprilia
Chaz Davies
Davies has not ridden a 250cc bike before
Britain's Chaz Davies will become one of the youngest-ever riders in the 250cc world road race championship next season.

The 15-year-old, who is stepping up from the 125cc class, has signed for the Aprilia Germany race team.

The Welsh rider became the youngest-ever grand prix entrant in 2002, a year after becoming the youngest winner of a British Championship race.

I just want to get on with the job and make the most of this opportunity

Chaz Davies

He marked his debut season in GPs by picking up five points for 11th place in the Portugal GP despite being handicapped by the under-powered 125cc Matteoni Racing Aprilia.

Davies has not ridden a 250cc machine before but is looking forward to the challenge of mastering the bigger and more powerful machine.

"I'm delighted to be riding with an experienced team," he said.

"They have a proven track record and are looking to help me as much as possible.

"Now my plans are in place I just want to get on with the job and make the most of this opportunity."

Davies' 2003 campaign will start at the season-opening Japanese Grand Prix at Suzuka on 6 April.
