Portugal's Tiago Monteiro says he has been assured he will drive for Formula One newcomers Midland next year. "My participation is assured with Midland F1 in the next world championship," the 29-year-old allegedly told A Bola newspaper.
"I got here from England with the best news, the confirmation."
Midland, whose name replaces Jordan on Tuesday after the British-based team was bought by Alex Shnaider in January, refused to confirm the reports.
Monteiro raced for Jordan this year and finished third in the US Grand Prix, which was reduced to a six-car fiasco after the Michelin-equipped teams withdrew for tyre safety reasons.
Toyota-powered Midland have already signed Christijan Albers as one of their two race drivers, with fellow Dutchman Nicky Pastorelli as official tester.
Indian Narain Karthikeyan was discarded on Wednesday after a poor rookie year with the team.
