Karthikeyan has failed to register a point for Jordan in 2005

Neither Karthikeyan nor team-mate Tiago Monteiro have scored a point yet in seven races for Jordan.

"We are all aware that the drivers are rookies," said team boss Colin Kolles at the Canadian Grand Prix on Friday.

"I wasn't happy with the performance of Narain in Monte Carlo, I was not happy with his performance at Nurburgring. He knows this, I told him this."

Karthikeyan failed to finish in Monaco and came 16th at the last European Grand Prix behind Monteiro after outperforming his team-mate in the opening two races.

The Indian has also been outqualified by Monteiro in the last two Grands Prix.

Although Kolles admitted his team had struggled to solve all the problems inherited when millionaire Alex Shnaider bought out Eddie Jordan, he is adamant they are moving in the right direction.

"This is a process I can't change overnight. The morale of the team will improve if we have better results," he added.

"Alex Shnaider decided to put the money up front one year early. This is a season of consolidation.

"Jordan was like a castle, nobody invested money in this castle and we need to renovate.

"Every day there is a new surprise - that is the problem. The company was in a disastrous situation."

Kolles also revealed the Silverstone-based team were also close to announcing an engine deal for 2006.

Jordan, who will be rebranded as Midland from next season, currently run Toyota engines but that deal is due to run out at the end of 2005.

"I think we are happy, they are happy," said Kolles when asked whether Toyota were likely to continue their partnership. "You will hear very soon. It's not a question of months, just days."
