| Hollioake gamble pays off Adam Hollioake shows off the B&H trophy Surrey president John Major admitted to a few anxious moments during their innings after watching the team win the B&H Cup for the third time. Click here for scorecard After a second wicket stand of 64 between Ian Ward and Mark Ramprakash, they slid into trouble before skipper Adam Hollioake turned things round in tandem with brother Ben. "I wasn't too sure about batting first, but Adam knows more than I do and he was proved right. "When we were 90 odd for four and 118 for five, we needed some runs then," the former British Prime Minister said afterwards. "I think there'll be something of a celebration tonight. A glass of champagne is certainly possible - or event two."
Hollioake insisted the decision to bat first if they won the toss on a pitch offering some movement to the seam bowlers had been taken after consultation with his teammates. "I think it was a brave decision, but we all felt it was the right thing to do. We've got a good bunch of experienced guys and I would be a fool not to listen to all of them," he said. "I think the wicket stayed pretty much as we thought it would - we thought it would do something all day. "It was a good wicket but it just offered a little bit and we stuck at it fairly well." The idea of a collaborative decision raised a smile from teammate Mark Ramprakash. "We weren't really quite sure what Adam was going to do. There were a few people surprised that we had a bat first, but it worked out OK. "One or two did a bit, but I think perhaps Gloucestershire were hampered a bit by the wet ball," said Ramprakash. He contributed 39 off 33 balls, including seven boundaries, despite problems with a hamstring injury. "I enjoyed getting in early. (Ian) Harvey's a good performer and swings it around a little bit, but I got off to a bit of a start - I got some useful overthrows early on - and just went from there." |
