Meg Mallon clinched the ADT Players' Championship after putting together a string of birdies on the back nine.

The 40-year-old American sunk five quick-fire birdies to card a round of 67 and win the trophy by a single stroke ahead of Annika Sorenstam.

"I just kept grinding on in there and it's fantastic to win," said Mallon, who scooped 90,000 in prize money.

"It was great fun. I knew Annika was making birdies, but I knew what I had to do."

Sorenstam, who led by three going into the final round, was seven under at the final tee at the West Palm Beach course.

But she pulled her tee shot into the rough and finished with a bogey that cost her victory.

"It's a difficult tee shot at the last and I thought I made a good swing, but it was a dead lie," the Swede said.

Britain's Laura Davies, who had shared the lead at the halfway point, finished back in 20th place after disappointing final rounds.

Wales' Becky Morgan was the top Briton finishing in joint 10th place.
