St Jude Classic Toms won his second title in two months |
David Toms fired a seven-under par 64 to fend off Nick Price and win the St Jude Classic. The former US PGA champion finished on 20 under to defeat Zimbabwe's Price by three strokes.
Sweden's Fredrik Jacobson and Richard S Johnson shared third with American Bob Estes.
Toms is enjoying an impressive season - he won at Charlotte last month and finished fifth at the US Open and shared eighth at the Masters in April.
The 36-year-old American opened his final round with a bogey before five birdies, including four in a row from the second, took him to the turn in 32.
Despite a mixed back nine, an eagle at the long 16th kept his challengers at bay.
Price, tied 18th overnight, scorched round in a 62 which included 10 birdies. But he had left himself too much to do to catch Toms.
"I hit a lot of quality shots," the 46-year-old African said.
"I have been putting well the past few months. I just figured I would take a run at it."
Long-time leader Johnson carded a final-round 69 to slip back, four shots off the lead.
US Senior Open Bruce Lietzke won his first Major in 53 starts |
American Bruce Lietzke shot a final-round two-over 73 to beat Tom Watson to the US Senior Open title in Toledo, Ohio. Leitzke held off Watson by two strokes to capture his first Major in 53 starts.
Eight-time Major winner Watson finished one stroke ahead of Argentina's Vicente Fernandez at Inverness Golf Club.
The top trio were the only players to break par for the over 50s tournament.
Former Masters champion Fuzzy Zoeller was fourth at one-over-par.
"I'm not sure if I feel so much as champion as I feel a survivor," said Lietzke.
"With this golf course set-up, I think it's probably in the top five of the toughest tournaments that I've ever played in my life."
A 13-time winner during a 25-year PGA Tour career, Lietzke claimed his second title of the season and seventh in three years on the Champions Tour.
