Stanford clinches first title
Angela Stanford
Stanford began and finished with 65s
American Angela Stanford shot a final-round six-under par 65 to win the $1.3m ShopRite Classic and claim her first LPGA title.

Stanford finished the 54-hole event at 16-under par, three strokes ahead of Britain's Becky Morgan and four ahead of Canada's Lorie Kane and American Juli Inkster.

Stanford started her final round with two birdies and an eagle at the par-five third.

The 25-year-old Texan followed with 12 consecutive pars and then birdied the par-five 16th and par-four 17th before finishing with a par-five at the final hole.

Stanford had also begun the event with a 65, setting herself on a path to capture a victory in the final LPGA event before next week's major championship, the US Women's Open.

Michelle Wie, the 13-year-old Hawaiian who won last week's US Women's Amateur Public Links crown, fired a 72 to finish on 215, sharing 52nd.

Sweden's Annika Sorenstam, the defending champion, also shot a 72 to finish on 208.
