Manchester United's Luke Chadwick is keen to stay at Reading after his one-month loan deal expires. Chadwick joined the Royals last week but after scoring against Gillingham on Monday he said: "I hope I can stay here longer than that." Chadwick was inspired to join Reading after seeing a three-month spell at the Madejski Stadium revive Matthew Upson's career. "I know that Matty had a great loan spell when he came from Arsenal and just a few weeks later he has made it into the England squad," said Chadwick. "Reading is a big club with a beautiful stadium and if I get the chance to extend my loan period here then I will be happy to do so." Reading boss Alan Pardew snapped up the 22-year-old star from under the noses of Cardiff. Lennie Lawrence had been confident of securing a deal for the out-of-favour Chadwick. But their hesitance allowed Reading to move for the Old Trafford star. Chadwick has made just five first-team appearances for United this season and is keen to play first-team football. United had high hopes that Chadwick would be the latest in a long line of stars to progress from their youth ranks when he broke into the first team as a 20-year-old. A loan spell at Royal Antwerp helped him earn the experience to break into United's first-team, but chances have been few and far between for the pacy winger. |
