Port Vale have won three of their last six matches under Jim Gannon

Port Vale manager Jim Gannon has said the argument that he had with assistant Geoff Horsfield is "an internal matter" that will be dealt with by the club.

Both men left the team coach during the journey to Aldershot on Friday.

"The club have made a statement," Gannon told BBC Radio Stoke after the 2-1 victory at the Recreation Ground.

"It's an internal matter that could be subject to a disciplinary hearing, so I think the most professional thing is to leave it in the hands of the club now."

Horsfield was not present at the game on Saturday, which Vale won to remain sixth in League Two.

He spoke to BBC WM prior to being part of their commentary team at Wembley for the Carling Cup final between Arsenal and his former club Birmingham City.

Of the argument with Gannon, he said: "We had a disagreement and unfortunately after that disagreement he [Gannon] left the coach.

"A couple of stops down the M6 at Spaghetti Junction, I got off as well.

"We've got to sort it out on Tuesday. I've got to take my representative to the club, he's got to take his and we'll try to sort it out.

"It's football and there are always heated arguments in changing rooms, but this time it was between staff.

"It's definitely got to be sorted out. It can't go on how it is.

"Obviously there's a problem with me and him so we'll get it sorted."

Horsfield was assistant to former Vale boss Micky Adams before his departure to Sheffield United in December.

Captain Marc Richards, who scored Vale's second goal against Aldershot, told BBC Radio Stoke that the events of the previous 24 hours had not affected the team's preparation for the match.

"Whatever happens off the field doesn't affect the players," said the Vale striker, who netted his 15th goal of the season on Saturday.

"The manager comes in, he says what he's got to say, he takes training, but anything on top of that doesn't affect us at all.

"We go out there, we play football and that's all we're concerned about."

Vale have won three of the 11 matches they have played since former Stockport, Motherwell and Peterborough boss Gannon took charge at Vale Park in January.

Meanwhile, the club have agreed, in principle, a one-month extension to the loan spell of Rotherham striker Tom Pope.
