Martin conceded six on his debut against Swindon last season

Port Vale goalkeeper Chris Martin says he is ready to step up from the bench should anything happen to first-choice keeper Joe Anyon.

Martin, 18, has made just three first team appearances this season and has not featured for the club since the middle of December.

"When you get your chance you have to make sure you are always ready," Martin told BBC Radio Stoke.

"If something unfortunate happens to Joe I have to hit the ground running".

Martin added: "He (Anyon) was on the bench a lot behind Mark Goodlad but when the chance came he put in back-to-back man-of-the-match performances, and I have to be ready to do the same".
