Davide Somma has his Leeds United contract extended
Somma spent a month on loan at Chesterfield in November
Leeds United have taken up the option of extending the contract of striker Davide Somma by a further year.
The 25-year-old South African has scored eight goals in 12 appearances while on loan at Lincoln City.
Leeds manager Simon Grayson told the club's website: "The main reason behind him going out on loan was to play games in a competitive environment.
"We've seen his qualities in training and in the reserves, but he needed a loan move like this."
Grayson added: "His record down there speaks for itself.
"Dave will come back here with plenty of confidence and more experience. He knows his future here is secure with another year, and we look forward to working with him again."
Somma joined Leeds in the summer of 2009 but has made just one first-team appearance, as a substitute in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy victory over Darlington in October.
He also had a short loan spell at Chesterfield, but it was efforts in helping Lincoln secure their League Two status that have seen him earn a longer deal at Elland Road.
