Kidderminster agree terms with three younger players

Kidderminster Harriers

Kidderminster defender Tom Sharpe, midfielder Nathan Hayward and winger Kyle Hadley have all agreed new one-year contracts with the club.

Martin Riley has been offered a new deal but Liam Dolman has been released and Gavin Caines allowed to leave.

Veteran Marcus Bignot has not been offered a coaching role, meaning he is likely to leave the club.

David McDermott has been invited to pre-season training, while no decision has been made on Dean Bennett.

Hayward, 18, has made nine first-team appearances for Harriers with 20-year-old Sharpe playing in 16 games.

Hadley, 23, spent part of last season on loan at Redditch United.

"We have a chance to develop them even further and that is something I am really looking forward to," manager Steve Burr told Kidderminster's club website.

"I have got the opportunity to work with these three young lads again next season and that is something I am really pleased about."

Despite Harriers offering defender Riley a new deal, interest in the 21-year-old has been high and he could leave Aggborough.

If he were to leave, the Blue Square Premier club would be entitled to compensation.

"I have spoken to Martin and he has said that there are a number of clubs who have stated they are prepared to pay money to take him for next season," added Burr.

"We have offered him re-engagement with us so we do have that protection should he get himself fixed up with a club.

"But if that is to happen then I would rather know as soon as possible so we can move on although I understand these things take time."

Defender Caines, 26, has triggered an appearance-related contract extension clause in his contract but has been made available on a free transfer after discussions with Burr.

Harriers have not been able to offer defender Bignot, 35, a place in their backroom staff.

"At the moment there is not enough available to us to keep Marcus on board for next season on the coaching side of things," said Burr.

"But I will not be closing any doors on Marcus and, if funds become available later in the summer, maybe we can do something."
