France progressed to the final of the Confederations Cup on an evening overshadowed by the death of Cameroon midfielder Marc-Vivien Foe. The 28-year-old midfielder, who had been loaned to Manchester City from French club Lyon last season, lost consciousness and collapsed to the ground during the second half of Cameroon's 1-0 semi-final win over Colombia at the Stade Gerland in Lyon.
He died shortly after being taken from the pitch.
Both France and Turkey were aware of the death and all five of the goals scored were greeted by muted celebrations in Paris.
France striker Thierry Henry said: "We were all thinking about him and his family before, during and after the match." French coach Jacques Santini, goalkeeper Gregory Coupet and strikers Sydney Govou and Steve Marlet knew Foe from his time at Lyon.
All the France goals came from Arsenal players, with Thierry Henry, Robert Pires and Sylvain Wiltord on target, while Turkey replied through Gokdeniz Karadeniz and Fenerbahce striker Tuncay Sanli.
It was Henry who opened the scoring and he after putting the ball in the net, he lifted his finger to the sky in a tribute to Foe.
