A controversial injury-time penalty put Cameroon within touching distance of the Confederations Cup semi-finals with victory over Turkey at the Stade de France on Saturday.

With only seconds remaining, Joseph-Desire Job charged into the penalty area and appeared to be pulled down by Turkish defender Servet Cetin.

Paraguayan referee Carlos Amarilla Demarqui pointed to the spot and Geremi slotted the kick to the left of Rustu Recber's dive, although the keeper got a hand to the ball.

The result means Cameroon, who beat Brazil 1-0 in their opening match, will qualify for the semi-finals if the United States do not beat Brazil in Saturday's later match.

The African champions exerted the bulk of the pressure throughout and went close through headers from Marc-Vivien Foe and Mohamadou Idrissou.

Tuncay thought he had the ball in the net for Turkey when he lobbed Cameroon keeper Idris Kameni, but Manchester City defender Lucien Mettomo was on the line to save his side.

The contest looked destined to end goalless, until Servet tangled with Job to swing the match Cameroon's way.
