Leicester manager Micky Adams says he would happily forfeit the First Division championship if he could guarantee promotion to the Premiership.

Leicester's 1-1 draw with Portsmouth on Monday saw the Foxes miss the chance to leapfrog their rivals at the top of the table.

But it extended their cushion over third place to 13 points.

And Adams admitted: "If people are going to say we're going to finish second at the end of this season then I'll take that, and that's not showing a lack of ambition.

"I'll take second place at the end of this season because we've had a traumatic year.

"You can't please all the people all the time and in accepting second-best people will say we should be aiming for the title.

"We'll still aim for the title but the Premiership is our great priority."

Portsmouth boss Harry Redknapp was happy to maintain his side's two-point lead at the top of the table after Matthew Taylor had cancelled out Trevor Benjamin's opener.

But he insisted the race for the two automatic promotion places is not over yet.

"We came here hoping to pick up three points but not to get beaten, that was the important thing."

"But it is not over yet and the others will keep chasing.

"Sheffield United have games in hand and Reading are coming good - they won't give up."
