Edwin Phiri is on Bwalya's list |
Zambia's technical director Kalusha Bwalya is targeting a number of European-based players for October's 2006 Nations Cup and World Cup qualifier against the Seychelles. Bwalya, who has the final say in team selection matters, said teenage defender Edwin Phiri, who plays for Swedish first division side Orgryte, is one of the players wanted for the tie.
Other players in the frame are Mwape Miti and Andrew Tembo, who both feature for Danish team OB Odense.
The duo have not played for the Chipolopolo for more than three years as a result of a dispute with the FA but Bwalya plans to convince them to return to the national side.
Moses Sichone and Andrew Sinkala, who play for Cologne in the German Bundesliga, as well as the Russian-based pair of Gift Kampamba and Chaswe Nsofwa are expected to play a key role.
Meanwhile, 18 local players have been invited to begin camping on Monday.
Following his recent trip to Holland to search for an expatriate assistant, Bwalya said an appointment would soon be made.
In the meantime, Ben Bamfuchile will work as his assistant, along with Dan Kabwe.
