Real win Beckham, Barca get Ronaldinho
Real and Barca went head-to-head again in the summer of 2003, but this time the battle took place off the pitch.
The object of their desires was Manchester United's David Beckham - with new Barcelona president Joan Laporta and his Real counterpart Florentino Perez keen to get brand Beckham in their club's shirt.
Real proved more tempting for the England captain and he joined Los Galacticos - the name given to their big-money signings Luis Figo, Ronaldo and Zidane - for a fee of 25m.
Barca were forced to look elsewhere, eventually settling on Paris St Germain's flamboyant Brazilian forward Ronaldinho.
