Worthington Cup final ratings
By Andrew Fraser

Marks out of 10 for all the players on show as Liverpool beat Man Utd in the Worthington Cup final.

Liverpool

Jerzy Dudek: Saved everything United threw at him.
Made up for his clanger against them in the Premiership with vital second-half stops to deny Scholes and Van Nistelrooy three times.

Jamie Carragher: Good in the air.
Patrolled the right flank with authority and came out on top in his duel with Giggs.

Stephane Henchoz: Crucial block on the line
to deny Scholes. Failed to cut out a second-half cross which almost resulted in a goal for Beckham.

Sami Hyypia: A solid game at the back
but fortunate that Van Nistelrooy failed to make the most of some gilt-edged chances.

John Arne Riise: Involved in the build-up to the goal.
Got forward whenever he could and cut out several Beckham crosses.

El Hadji Diouf: Showed only brief glimpses of his trickery.
Wasted a promising two-on-two break but gave Silvestre some anxious moments.

Dietmar Hamann: A cool head in midfield.
Quiet but effective and saved his most telling contribution to last by setting up Owen's clincher.

Steven Gerrard: Put Liverpool in control with a
sledgehammer shot - albeit with the help of a deflection. Denied a second by a great Barthez save.

Danny Murphy: Commanding display in the midfield
engine room. Went close with a great turn and shot over the bar in the first half.

Michael Owen: Had his markers on alert at all times
and kept his cool to end United's hopes with the killer second goal.

Emile Heskey: Flitted in and out of the game before
limping off injured with half an hour to go. Had a decent claim for a second-half penalty.

Milan Baros (on for Heskey, 60mins): Almost laid on
a goal for Gerrard with his first run. Threatened with his pace as the game became stretched.

Vladimir Smicer (on for Baros, 88): Hardly any time
to impress but missed a tap-in from less than a yard with his first touch.

Man Utd

Fabien Barthez: Made several fine saves.
Given no chance for Gerrard's deflected strike or Owen's late breakaway goal.

Gary Neville: A quiet game on the right for United.
Got forward more in the second half but failed to deliver many telling crosses.

Wes Brown: Had his hands full with Owen throughout
and a slip almost gifted the striker a goal in the opening moments of the second half.

Rio Ferdinand: Some decent interceptions, but frequent
Liverpool counter-attacks as United chased an equaliser left him and Brown with a lot to do.

Mikael Silvestre: Some sloppy play on the ball.
Rarely ventured forward down the left flank and found Diouf a handful.

David Beckham: Failed to close down
Gerrard quickly enough for the goal. A limited threat with his crosses and wasted his one free-kick chance.

Roy Keane: A quiet game by his fiery standards.
Lucky not to concede a second-half penalty and could not stamp his authority on the game.

Juan Sebastian Veron: Made one dangerous run
to create a good chance for Scholes but failed to make the difference.

Ryan Giggs: Poor effort with early right-foot chance.
Some sloppy passing in the final third when United needed some inspiration.

Ruud van Nistelrooy: A disappointing day for
the goal machine. Well marshalled by Henchoz and Hyypia and failed to convert United's four best chances.

Paul Scholes: Involved in some of United's best moves,
but too often his passes went astray.
