England bowler Isa Guha gives us the low-down on the England women's squad ahead of the series against IndiaCharlotte Edwards, captain
Born: 19.12.79
Right hand bat, bowler
Lottie has officially taken over the captaincy since Clare Connor retired early on in the year.
Up until now she has been the most prolific run scorer in the women's game and bowls anything from spin to seam! She has all-round cricketing knowledge and the team will be fully behind her.
Laura Newton
Born: 27.11.77
Right hand bat, right hand medium
She is the newly appointed vice captain, I'm sure she will provide valuable support to Lottie.
She has enforced her place as an opening bat and on her day can rip bowling attacks apart. In the meantime she has been working on her off spin so don't be surprised to see her turning her arm over.
She is also one player that I admire as she is the only one with two children to look after as well as juggling a part-time degree and training.
Jane Smit
Born: 24.12.72
Right hand bat, wicket-keeper
She is probably the veteran of the squad as she's been playing for England since 1993 where she was part of the World Cup winning team.
However, she is still as fit as ever and cleans up well behind the stumps. A great person to have in the team because she's always smiling and cracking jokes.
Jenny Gunn
Another all-rounder within the team, Jen has emerged as a top order bat in the past couple of years. As a bowler she gets a lot of movement and bounce with her height and has one of the best arms in the game.
Don't expect to be taking quick singles to her! She is also the newly appointed organiser of the team CD after the last one was sacked - do us proud Jen!
Rosalie Birch
'Cheesy' is a player that has the ability to make something happen whether it's with the bat or the ball. She tends to have a knack of picking up wickets when required. She also bats in the middle order and is a very attacking bat who is capable of scoring big runs.
She has recently used her cricket talents to travel to India in order to raise money for Sport Relief.
Caroline Atkins
'Shaggy' is a member of the team to benefit from the MCC cricket academy where she is able to use Lord's as a resource and practice almost every day whilst having paid opportunities. Over the past couple of years she has flourished with the bat in the domestic game and has become a lot more attacking in her game. She also provides another seamer option!
Claire Taylor
'Tails' is my fellow Reading and Berkshire team-mate and training buddy. She has a lot of experience behind her and always seems to come up trumps with the bat.
She is another hard-hitting batsman who looks busy in the crease and can be slightly unorthodox which makes her hard to bowl against.
She is probably one of our more logical thinkers having studied maths at Oxford.
Isa Guha
I am looking forward to gaining revenge on the Indians and offer some sort of experience to the newer players. I tend to seam the ball rather than swing it and my aim will be to put pressure on the batsmen forcing to play a game that is not natural to them.
I have worked a lot on my batting and hopefully produce valuable runs lower down the order. I am hoping to retain my place in the field as square leg specialist!
Beth Morgan
Another training buddy of mine, Beth is Miss reliable. You can always guarantee that she will do the job at hand on and off the field.
Another all-rounder but tends to get the ball to swing a lot more than most.
She is a middle order bat who runs well between the wickets and can pick up crucial runs towards the end of the game.
Holly Colvin
Played her first international after being drafted in against the Aussies in the first Test last year and showed her talent then. She has now been included in the touring side and a year on looks more consistent and more mature.
People may question the fact that she is still quite young but I believe she has a good head on her shoulders and will not be fazed by the opposition.
Katherine Brunt
It is safe to say that 'Nunny' has taken over the reigns of main strike bowler from Lucy Pearson and picked up the Vodafone Player of the Year Award 05/06 for her performances in the Ashes last summer. I'm sure she's looking forward to playing against the Indians after having to return home early during the winter tour due to a fractured finger.
A great character to have in the team and has really come out of her shell since her first tour.
She usually comes out with some great one liners. You can see a resemblance in character with fellow Barnsley-born cricketer Darren Gough.
Lynsey Askew
A newcomer to the team, she has proved herself on a number of occasions in the Super 4s where she opened the bowling. She is extremely accurate which puts pressure on the batsmen and can bowl tightly at any stage of the game.
She is also a reliable fielder and bat and I'm sure she won't mind me saying that she is a very talented musician too.
Sarah Taylor
Another newcomer, she is a shining young talent who has proved herself at Super 4s by consistently scoring runs. She also looks extremely sharp as a wicket-keeper which provides England with an exciting successor to Jane Smit who will be a hard act to follow.
She has a very promising future.
Laura Marsh
'Boggy' has been drafted into the team as a replacement for Nicky Shaw who had an unfortunate knee injury. She has worked on her pace in the past couple of years and can get a lot of movement with the new ball.
At Super 4s not only did she open the bowling but she also opened the batting which shows that she is a quality all-rounder.
I'm sure she will grab this opportunity with both hands.
