ODI debut: v Zimbabwe, January 1998Mahela Jayawardene showed he was a natural captain when, early in his tenure, he led the team to a 5-0 thrashing against England - and what's more, it was on English pitches.
As a batsman, he leaves the big shots to others but, now vastly experienced, he is more than adept at keeping the runs flowing.
Not an easy man to bowl to in ODIs, especially when well set, because he has no obvious weaknesses and does not favour one side of the wicket to the other.
