Bangladesh register stunning win
Second one-day international, Dhaka:
Bangladesh 229-9 beat India 214 by 15 runs

Three-match series tied 1-1

Bangladesh celebrate
Bangladesh stunned India by 15 runs in Dhaka to record a sixth victory in their 100th one-day match.

Propelled to 229-9 by teenager Aftab Ahmed's first international half-century, Bangladesh then dismissed India in the 48th over.

India lost both openers inside four overs, and despite 57 to Sridharan Sriram and Mohammad Kaif's 49 could not avoid a first ever loss to Bangladesh.

Aftab hit 67 off 98 balls before being bowled by Murali Kartik, who took 2-43.

The 19-year-old struck five fours and a six, and Mashrafe Mortaza weighed in with a late 31 not out after the hosts had fallen to 88-5.

India made four changes to the side that won the first game, resting Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, Irfan Pathan and Harbhajan Singh.

Sehwag, Dinesh Mongia, Zaheer Khan and Kartik were the players to come in, while Bangladesh made one change, replacing Mushfiqur Rahman with Mortaza.

PREVIOUS BANGLADESH WINS
Kenya - by six wickets at Hyderabad in 1998
Scotland - by 22 runs at Edinburgh in 1999
Pakistan - by 62 runs at Chester-le-Street in 1999
Zimbabwe - by eight runs at Harare in 2004
Hong Kong - by 116 runs at Colombo in 2004

After winning the toss, the hosts were 1-1 in the second over when Mohammad Rafique fell lbw to Zaheer (2-53).

Agit Agarkar (2-31) kept the wickets tumbling with the next two strikes, removing Nafis Iqbal and Habibul Bashar.

Iqbal was caught behind for nine and skipper Bashar bowled for 17 to reduce Bangladesh to 37-3.

Mohammad Ashraful and Aftab then put on 44 for the fourth wicket, with Ashraful indulging in two sixes.

But, with the score on 81, Ashraful was caught and bowled by spinner Kartik.

The Tigers then looked in dire trouble when Rajin Saleh was run out by Yuvraj Singh, but Aftab and Khaled Mashud steadied the ship with a stand of 44 for the sixth wicket.

Mashud was caught off Sriram for 20, and Aftab put on a further 36 runs with Khaled Mahmud (17) before he was bowled by Kartik.

Bangladesh's tail then provided good service to push the total way past 200, with Mortaza putting on 39 for the ninth wicket with Tapash Baisya (17 off 13 balls).

India were given an early wake-up call in their run-chase when Sehwag was bowled by Mortaza (2-36) and Yuvraj Singh was caught off Baisya (2-35), reducing them to 5-2.

It forced India back into their shell, and skipper Sourav Ganguly took 43 balls for his 22 before falling to Mahmud (2-40).

Despite the deeds of Sriram and Kaif in the middle-order, India's required run-rate crept ever higher as they lost wickets at regular intervals.

They needed 60 runs off the last 60 balls, 30 off the last 30 and 18 off the last 18, and were given some hope by Joginder Sharma's unbeaten 29 off 22 balls.

But he ran out of partners when Kartik was run out by an Aftab direct hit, sparking scenes of rampant celebration among Bangladesh's win-starved players.

It was Bangladesh's third defeat of a Test-playing nation and first ever win at home, setting up a decider in the final match at the same ground on Monday.
